A 17-year-old boy was held for his alleged involvement in sending bomb risk mails to varsities in Delhi, police mentioned on Friday.

Police mentioned the minor is a category 12 scholar from a non-public faculty in Delhi and is allegedly a part of a bunch of scholars who’ve been sending bomb threats to varsities.

Wednesday’s incident was the seventh such incident within the final two months.
Senior law enforcement officials mentioned the Wednesday mail was despatched by an unknown sender at 10:45am.
The mail talked about {that a} highly effective bomb was positioned in every faculty and can detonate throughout exams. The mail added that faculties should pay a ransom.
A lot of the faculties that obtained the mail are in south Delhi.
“We traced the location of the Gmail account, and the boy was found on Thursday. He used a phone to send the mail. He was brought in for questioning and told us that he and his friends have been doing this since last year as a prank. They were using VPN to evade being caught”, a police officer conscious of the developments mentioned.

In Might 2024, over 250 faculties throughout Delhi-NCR obtained hoax bomb threats mails. No arrests have been made in that case until date. The police officer added that also they are checking the involvement of those boys in that case.
“We are checking their involvement in previous cases including the May 2024 incident in which more than 250 schools were targeted,” added the officer.
