Based on the knowledge accessible, Friday was the fourth day when the scholars on the colleges, one in all Aam Aadmi Get together’s (AAP) flagship Faculty of Eminence, had been aiding building work as a substitute of attending lessons.
On Friday, Punjab schooling minister suspended the varsity principal and dismissed the campus supervisor.
Saying the suspension, Bains mentioned such incidents won’t be tolerated. “A clear warning is issued to all teachers and school heads to avoid such unprofessional behaviour,” Bains added.
Even because the board exams are set to start on February 19, the scholars had been tasked with hauling building materials, reportedly as punishment for arriving late to the varsity.
A scholar who was amongst these punished, requesting to not be named, mentioned, “Those who came late were punished and made to carry sandbags for the construction of new washrooms. Sometimes, we were made to do this even during recess.”
Kuldeep Singh, the now-suspended principal of the varsity, mentioned it was the choice of a particular trainer. “I was unaware of this until pictures were brought to my attention. A teacher punished latecomers by assigning them to move sandbags. I have already initiated an inquiry and reported the matter to higher authorities,” Singh mentioned.
District schooling officer (secondary) Dimple Madan confirmed that an inquiry was initiated into the incident. “The matter was brought to our attention on Friday,” she mentioned.
The establishment is a part of the ‘school of eminence’ initiative, aimed toward fostering literacy, holistic development and emotional sensitivity amongst college students. Nonetheless, the incident paints a contradictory picture.
Outraged by the incident, dad and mom of the scholars urged the authorities to make sure stricter oversight on colleges and defend college students’ educational priorities.
