Barely weeks after an encounter between Maoists and safety forces of Odisha, Chhattisgarh and CRPF led to the deaths of 16 rebels, together with Maoist Central Committee member Jayaram Reddy aka Chalapati, a contemporary gunfight broke out on Friday morning between safety personnel and ultras in a village close to Gandhamardhan hills in Bolangir district.

The police consider the rebels could have crossed over from Chhattisgarh to the world via Nuapada district. At current 40-50 Maoists are lively inside Odisha.
The Gandhamardhan hills, the place the current conflict occurred, is thought to be a hotspot for Maoists. In February 2019, safety forces busted a Maoist camp within the space throughout a combing operation.
