MUMBAI: Two males allegedly extorted ₹10 lakhs from a 71-year-old girl by posing as a cop and lawyer on WhatsApp, and inserting her below ‘digital arrest’ for being part of a cash laundering case. After two months of looking, the Kandivali Police on Monday arrested the 2 accused- Bhagatram Bhanwarlal Devashi and Mangesh Choudhary.

The complainant, Praveena Jagdish Jhaveri, is a Kandivali resident. Police stated on January 15, she was at house along with her grandchildren when she obtained a WhatsApp video name from an unknown quantity. The person launched himself as a police officer and informed her that her title had cropped up in a giant monetary fraud, the place her checking account was used to switch unlawful cash. Jhaveri was threatened with home raids and arrest at first.
