Kolkata: Two individuals have been killed and three others injured in a hearth, which broke out in a fabric godown, in north Kolkata early on Monday.

Police mentioned that 5 individuals obtained trapped within the hearth which broke out in a fabric go-down on the third ground of a business constructing on Pathuriaghata Road after midnight.

“While three persons could be rescued, two were missing. Their bodies were recovered in the morning. They didn’t have any burn injuries. They might have died of asphyxiation because of the smoke,” mentioned an IPS officer of Kolkata Police.

Native residents mentioned that the 2 deceased have been native clergymen who used to remain in a small room close to the terrace.

Hearth brigade officers mentioned that despite the fact that the fireplace broke out round 1 am, they have been knowledgeable solely round 3.30 am.

“The fire broke out in a go-down on the third floor. We had to break multiple locks and force our way into the building by breaking open the door on the terrace. Two persons were found in an unconscious state near the terrace door, which was locked,” mentioned a hearth brigade officer.

The victims have been rushed to the medical school within the morning. The medical doctors declared them lifeless on arrival.

“It was earlier a dharmashala. Later it was turned into a commercial building with mostly shops and godowns,” mentioned an area resident.
