Members of the ETT 5994 Backlog Union alleged that they have been cane-charged by policemen throughout their march to the residence of chief minister Bhagwant Mann on Sunday. They alleged that lots of them have been injured however the police claimed that solely gentle power was used to cease the protesters. The protesters have been demanding a recruitment drive to fill all vacant ETT positions.

Surinder Pal Gurdaspur, state president of the union, stated, “The state government had promised to fill 5,994 positions, but only 2,670 teachers were recruited.” He stated the union has been demanding de-reservation of the remaining vacancies, together with each backlog and new posts allotted to ex-servicemen and below the sports activities quota, to accommodate certified unemployed academics in faculties.
“It is unacceptable. There is a clear need of teachers, but the government is holding back thousands of positions,” he added. Based on the protesters, a number of female and male academics sustained accidents throughout the alleged police lathi-charge.
The protesters stated they dispersed after the native administration later assured them of a gathering with the CM. The union warned that the protest could be intensified if their calls for weren’t met.
Navreet Singh Virk, Superintendent of police (SP) Punjab Bureau of Investigation, stated there was no order for a lathi-charge. “The protesters were pushing away the cops and attempting to enter the chief minister’s residence, forcing the police to use mild force to stop them. There was no lathicharge,” he added.
