Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister D Ok Shivakumar on Wednesday assured households residing Under the Poverty Line that the federal government will reissue BPL playing cards to eligible households if their playing cards had been mistakenly cancelled, PTI reported.

The reassurance follows controversy over reviews that over 22.6 lakh BPL cardholders had been deemed ineligible, prompting criticism from the opposition BJP. The occasion accused the ruling Congress of mishandling the difficulty.
Addressing reporters, Shivakumar mentioned the federal government’s actions adhered to parameters set by the Centre for BPL eligibility. He added that any errors resulting in the cancellation of playing cards for eligible households can be rectified.
“There have been discrepancies in some areas and we will address them. A review is underway to eliminate ineligible beneficiaries,” Shivakumar mentioned.
When questioned concerning the lack of bodily verification earlier than cancelling playing cards, he famous that Chief Minister Siddaramaiah had issued directions to the related minister.
Shivakumar mentioned an inventory of cancelled playing cards can be despatched to MLAs for verification.

CM directs officers to not cancel ration playing cards of poor households
Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah on Wednesday instructed the Meals Division officers to not cancel the ration playing cards of poor households.
The chief minister ordered that if the ration playing cards of any household apart from authorities staff and earnings tax payers are cancelled, they need to be returned instantly, the Chief Minister’s Workplace mentioned in a press release.
“The chief minister has warned that action will be taken against the Food Department officials if the ration cards of poor families are cancelled without any reason,” it added.
