Vigilance Bureau directed to arrest and produce Chahal earlier than chief judicial Justice of the Peace’s court docket in Patiala on October 28. 

Patiala chief judicial Justice of the Peace Amandeep Kamboj has ordered the arrest of Bharat Inder Singh Chahal, an officer on particular responsibility (OSD) with former Punjab chief minister Capt Amarinder Singh, in a corruption case.

The orders, uploaded on Friday, directed the station home officer of the Vigilance Bureau (VB) in Patiala to arrest Chahal and produce him earlier than the CJM’s court docket on October 28.

The court docket had on Tuesday acknowledged that Chahal stands charged with the offence beneath Sections 13 (1) B and 13 (2) of the Prevention of Corruption Act within the disproportionate property case registered in opposition to him by the VB.

On October 4, the Punjab and Haryana excessive court docket had dismissed Chahal’s anticipatory bail plea.

The allegations are that Chahal, in the course of the earlier Congress tenure and Amarinder’s stint because the CM, allegedly obtained hefty bribes by adopting corrupt practices and he alongside along with his spouse invested in some properties. The inquiry was initiated by the vigilance in November 2022 in respect of two properties– a wedding palace on the Patiala-Fatehgarh Sahib street and the development on a business web site situated at PUDA Enclave-1, Nabha Highway, Patiala.

The FIR was registered in August 2023.
