The Centre has scrapped the ‘no-detention coverage’ for lessons 5 and eight in colleges ruled by it permitting them to fail college students who don’t clear the year-end exams, in line with officers.
Central Board of Secondary Schooling (CBSE) affiliated colleges may even promote all college students of lessons I to VIII to the subsequent grade in view of the current coronavirus inflicted lockdown.(HT file)
In keeping with a gazette notification, after the conduct of standard examination, if a toddler fails to fulfil the promotion standards, as notified sometimes, he shall be given extra instruction and alternative for re-examination inside a interval of two months from the date of declaration of outcomes.
“If the child appearing in the re-examination fails to fulfil the promotion criteria again, he shall be held back in fifth class or eighth class, as the case may be.

However, the government has clarified that no child shall be expelled from any school till completion of elementary education.
According to senior Ministry of Education officials, the notification will be applicable to over 3,000 schools run by the central government including Kendriya Vidyalayas, Navaodyala Vidyalayas and Sainik Schools.
“Since college training is a state topic, states could make their determination on this regard. Already 16 states and a pair of UTs together with Delhi have completed away with the no-detention coverage for these two lessons.
“Haryana and Puducherry have not made any decision yet while remaining states and UTs have decided to continue with the policy,” a senior official stated.
