A drunk driver veered his dumper truck off the highway onto a footpath crushing 9 folks sleeping on the footpath killing three, together with two toddlers, and injuring six others in Kesnand Wagholi on the wee hours on Monday, officers stated.

Deputy chief minister Ajit Pawar visited the spot within the afternoon and met the households of accident victims. “I have instructed the police to invoke the most stringent sections against the arrested accused, who was drunk at the time of the accident. We are also taking action against the dumper owner. The state government will take care of medical expenses of the injured and extend other benefits to the affected families after discussion with chief minister Devendra Fadnavis,” stated Pawar.
In the meantime, the state authorities has introduced ₹5 lakh aid to the kin of victims and free remedy for the injured.
