The Indian Institute of Expertise (IIT) Madras has joined arms with the Indian Area Analysis Organisation (ISRO) to determine a Centre of Excellence for analysis in ‘Fluid and Thermal Sciences’.

A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed between ISRO and IIT Madras on November 11, 2024, as a part of which the previous will present seed funding of ₹1.84 Crore to determine this centre.

The MoU was signed by Prof. Manu Santhanam, Dean (Industrial Consultancy and Sponsored Analysis), IIT Madras, and Victor Joseph T, Director of Directorate of Expertise Growth & Innovation (DTDI) at ISRO, within the presence of Challenge coordinator Prof. Arvind Pattamatta, Division of Mechanical Engineering in IIT Madras, and different stakeholders from IIT Madras and ISRO.

Based on a press assertion, the Centre will act as a nodal centre for spacecraft and launch vehicle-related thermal administration analysis actions of ISRO.

He mentioned, “By addressing complex thermal engineering challenges, we aim to contribute significantly to the nation’s space program and strengthen India’s self-reliance in space technologies”
